Description

Circa 1780/1800. Tall 2-storey and basement, very high piend

roof with 2 coped chimneys, cherry cocked granite ashlar.

S.-front 3-window with 2-light centre windows each floor;

gables 1-window, partly blinded; N. wall 2-window and centre square-piend-roofed stair projection 3-storey and basement

with single doorway in re-entrant angle. Basement openings

checked for shutters.

Interior: said to have been fire damaged 70 years ago, but appears un-altered, late 18th century joinery throughout, severely plain;

large square stair well with cantilevered stair with simple rail.

Shows unusual security-consciousness for its date.

"Raniston" is mentioned in the 1725 account of the parish.
