Built in four courses of squared sandstone ashlar with a shallow domed corniced capital and a decorative iron finial.
There is a metal lion head spout on the west side and a large hinged metal access door on the north side.
St Erchan's Well is a good example of a 19th century decorative well head. It is built of dressed stone with decorative iron details and it sits at a prominant location in the centre of the village.
The well head was supplied with piped water from the spring about 400 yards northeast of the village. It was built to provide watering for horses.
The first church in the village was dedicated to St Erchard (or Erchan) and built close to the source of the spring.
