Description

17th century; extended to E and roof raised 18th century; extended to W, steading to W and N rebuilt forming courtyard, 1992-5 by D Penman, architect. 2-storey and attic, 4-bay house with single storey wing. Lime harl with stone margins. Moulded, basket-arched and corniced doorway.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: gabled porch in bay to left of centre with modern timber door in basket-arched doorway below carved stone panel dated '1687', and windows on returns; further windows to each floor in 2 bays to right and single bay to left of centre, those to ground floor with carved lintels: '19 KC GC 94' (new) to left, '16 IM LB 8?' to right, and '16 IM BL 38' (new) to outer right. 3 windows to single storey extension at outer left with dominant modern rooflights and modern link wall abutting at outer right.

W ELEVATION: bowed end of single storey extension projecting at ground, window to outer right at recessed 1st floor and 2 attic windows above in gablehead. Regularly fenestrated 7-bay wing projecting to outer left.

E ELEVATION: blank gabled elevation.

N ELEVATION: detail obscured by courtyard.

9- and 12-pane glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Coped ashlar and harl stacks with cans. Stepped ashlar-coped skews.

GATEPIERS: flat-coped, banded and vermiculated, circular gatepiers.
