Description

Earlier-mid 19th century. 2-storey country house with
restrained Tudor gothic detailing. Squared rubble walling,
squared quoins, polished red sandstone dressings.
S ELEVATION: 5-bay with boldly advanced ball-finialled gabled
end bays. Bipartite windows with 4-centred arch heads under
squared hoodmould. To inner left bay, doorway opened from
window, double-leaf doors. Sash and case wndows with 2-pane
plate glass glazing pattern. 1st floor windows break eaves
line with triangular ball-finialled gablets flanking squared
'gablet' head over centre bay.
E ELEVATION: Asymmetrical with gabled ball finialed
single-storey deep entrance porch to right. Windows detailed
as S.
W ELEVATION: 3-bay with single-storey projecting square bay
to centre with parapet and ball finials. 1st floor windows
set in square-headed dormers. Adjoining to N 3-bay lower
kitchen wing with piended roof. Some ground floor windows
with 12-pane glazing, otherwise glazing as above. Lower
2-storey irregular elevation to N with some single-storey
buildings grouped around small partially flagged service
court. Coped wall to court with ball finials and al antica
bronze Herakles.
Axial and wallhead groupings of tall diamond stacks, slate
roofs.
To N large walled garden on sloping site. Coped stepped
rubble wall with many ball finials.
