Description

1590 dated panel suggests possible building date. Small,
simple rectangular-plan tower house with conical-roofed
turret corbelled over north west and south east angles.
Renovated probably later in 19th century: upper parts of
turrets rebuilt, enlarged 1st floor window inserted and wall
head dormer added north and south. Rubble-built, with red
ashlar dressings and roll-moulding to some openings. Door at
west end of south wall below (dated) armorial panel:
small-paned windows: slit openings: crow-stepped gables: coped
end stacks: slate roofs.
Interior: vaulted ground floor; wheel stair within angle
beside door.

Statement of Interest

The armorial panel is that of the Maxwell family. Well maintained (1984).
