Description

William Adam, 1721-6, possibly incorporating earlier fabric; remodelled W H Playfair 1837 - 1845 who transformed the place into a Quasi-Caroline Castle.

Statement of Interest

The attribution to Sir John Vanburgh given in the RCAHMS inventory is incorrect. Further references are given in Colvin, and various building accounts and drawings for the Castle and ancillary buildings are held at Floors Castle. List description amended January 2006.
