Quadrangular steading comprised of U-plan group of
earlier 19th century cartshed, stable and granary
ranges, and later 19th century engine house and stalk;
closed to S by farmhouse. Rubble sandstone; droved
ashlar dressings. Cill courses to granary windows.
N (CARTSHED) RANGE: single storey, piend-roofed range
with 5 segmental cart arches to courtyard, currently
blocked as stable doors. Red pantiles and slate eaves
easing course.
W RANGE:- 2-storey stable and granary range; 7 irregular
bays; doorway at centre and to right of courtyard
elevation; 4 bays with window to each floor, and
further granary window to right; roof piended to N,
gabled to S, where abutted by pantiled single storey
bay, linking range with wing of farmhouse. Grey slates;
ashlar coped skews.
E RANGE: 2-storey granary range. 3 pedestrian doorways
and 1 machinery doorway to courtyard elevation; 3
granary windows above. Adjoined at N by cartshed range.
Gable end to S with hayloft/granary door and round
arched panel of flight-holes to dovecot at apex. Grey
slates; ashlar coped skews. Engine house abutting to W.
STALK AND ENGINE HOUSE: piend-roofed engine house
projecting from W range. Purple slates. Tapering, square
section, red brick stalk with neck band, cornice and
blocking course.
Pinkiehill Farmhouse is listed separately. The
relatively unspoiled survival of the small steading with
farmhouse at its head, abacking the courtyard, is of
interest, particularly in the context of Inveresk
Village, and with the towering landmark of the stalk.
