Description

Circa 1788. Tall octagonal dovecote; pinned rubble, tooled
ashlar dressings. Centre ground floor entrance at S with
oval occulus above. 3 gablet dormers with timber fronts and
each with 17 flight holes and alighting ledges rise from
wallhead at SE, S and SW. Rat course encircles building
between lintel below occulus. Base course, long and short
angle detailing; facetted slate roof with apex finial.
Interior; circa 630 regular stone nesting boxes in regular
formation starting roughly 3' from ground level. Centre
potence tree stands on circular stone plinth slotted into
crossbeam at upper end. (No ladder survives).

Statement of Interest

Stands on mound by Culloden House stables. Centre potence

tree formerly supported revolving ladder to facilitate

examination of nests.
