Description

Oblong tower-house (earlier 16th cent.) with extensions
built around a very small court. Tower has 3 storeys and a
garret. Corbie stepped, with corbelled turrets at angles.
Vaulted 1st storey with traces of an entresol floor.
Turnpike stair up from Hall in 2nd storey. In later 16th
cent. a 2-storeyed wing was added on S. side and from it
was built a 3-storeyed wing on E. Between the latter and the
tower a scale-and-platt stair and a new entrance (arms of
Mercers over) were built in 17th cent.

Statement of Interest

Former seat of the Mercers who acquired Addie from the

Murrays of Tullibardine (PERTHSHIRE) c. 1350 through

marriage. Passed eventually to Marquess of Lansdowne,

Restored by I.G. Lindsay.
