Description

18th-19th cents. ORIGINAL MANSION: Georgian. 2 storeys and garret. Harled. Slated roof. Gabled dormers. Corner stones. Pedimented upper windows; gabled lower ones.

Additions: c.1815 and later. 2 long wings flanking the original mansion; terminating in front in bow windows and returning to meet at rear. E. wing has segmental pediment over central bay with rusticated porte-cochere flanked by bay windows. W. wing has high crenellated tower and bay window.

Statement of Interest

Lands at Kilmichael were purchased by Lamonts of Knockdow 1753 Kilmichael House was enlarged for James Lamont, 14th of Knockdow and re-named after old seat (fragmentary remains) near the Kirk. Seat of Lamonts of Knockdow until 1958.
