Description

Presumably circa 1867, part of David Bryce's work at Amhuinnsuidhe.

Screen wall and gateway, a visual announcement of arrival at the mansion. Roadway now crosses a cattle-grid, 2-leaf vehicle gate set to

north side of roadway; pedestrian gate on south side, opposite. Gates and gatepiers are all cast-iron, spike-headed rails. Screen wall either side built of (imported) stugged ashlar; beyond, to south, wall is rubble-built and stepped like castellations steeply downwards towards river - which has been made into a cascade, emptying into a dammed pool, all part of the overall "country house" concept.
