Description

Circa 1790, with later additions and alterations. 2-storey, 3-bay L-plan farmhouse covered rubble with stugged ashlar dressings, raised margins. Corniced doorpiece at centre, mid 19th century, with bracketed pediment to panelled door; decorative fablight. Tripartite door with depressed-arch fanlight and 4-pane side lights. Contemporary, ashlar piend roofed canted bays flanking at ground. 3 windows at 1st floor, grouped to centre close under eaves. Round-arched window at ground floor to rear. Single storey additions and lean-to pig-sties adjoining. Modenr lean-to conservatory added to S gable. Sash and case windows with 2-pane glazing pattern at ground. 12-pane to 1st floor. Probably re-roofed mid 19th century: purple slates to piended and platform roof with small polygonal skylight at rear. Corniced wallhead stacks.

Statement of Interest

Plans illustrate agricultural improvement in Longniddry instigated by the Wemyss Estate: farmhouse, with steading, mill, mill lade and sluice (listed separately) and enclosure replacing small holdings.
