Earlier 19th century. Single storey and attic, rectangular-plan, 3-bay cottage. Snecked rubble to front, rubble elsewhere, stugged and margined ashlar dressings, slate roof. Lattice-paned casement windows (bottom panels at S elevation now plate glass), hoodmoulds to door and flanking windows at S elevation; bracketted eaves; brick end stacks.
S ELEVATION: door to centre, window to left and right, large gable dormer to attic. Window to attic at left and right return gables.
N ELEVATION: door and various windows, concealed by steep bank.
INTERIOR: not seen.
The cottage is picturesquely situated adjoining the Knapp Burn and waterfall, and was formerly part of the Rossie estate. The original Newton Sawmill was destroyed by fire and has been replaced by a modern building.
