Statement of Interest

According to Marshall, the Duchess Anne (d1716) established a harbour

at Lamlash and introduced coal mining and a salt industry to Arran. The NEW STATISTICAL ACCOUNT mentions that this harbour, or quay was subsequently (wholly or partially) used as a quarry in about 1800 for house building in Lamlash. The present structure was presumably erected soon after.
