Description

Dated 1874. Single storey, L-plan Italianate gate lodge with
later extension to north. Rubble, ashlar dressings. SW
re-entrant angle fitted with semi-circular portico supported
on 2 engaged and 4 fluted Ionic columns. Moulded cornice with
centre semi-circular pediment with initialled shield and date;
single window on each inner face. Key-stoned Venetian windows
in south and west gables, with original casements; modern
glazing. Corniced ridge and end stacks; projecting and
barge-boarded eaves; shallow slate roof.

Initials on shield JFG for J.F. Gillanders of Highfield.

Lodge possibly gardener's cottage; if so, then by William
