Description

2-storey hotel comprised of 4 properties, 1 mid 18th
century building and terrace of mid 19th century properties.
Rendered and linted, with base course; painted margins.
MID 18TH CENTURY PROPERTY: W elevation facing The Square,
at right angles to later terrace. 3 wide bays with door at
centre and window to left; 2-leaf doors. Window in each
flanking bay at ground and to each bay under eaves. 2-bay
gables S intercepted by circa 1900 bay linking with Main
Street terrace. 4-pane glazing pattern in sash and case
windows at ground, 12-pane to 1st floor windows. Pantile
roof, grey slate easing course. Gable end stacks.
MAIN STREET PROPERTIES: 2, 19th century terrace houses
combined and with later alterations. S elevations: 3-bay
property to W, with segmentally pedimented doorpiece at
centre, pilaster-flanked, and with ornate wrought-iron
overthrow/hotel sign. Single windows to each floor to
right, stone mullioned bipartites to left. 2 canted, piend
roofed late 19th century dormers. 4-pane glazing pattern
to sash and case windows. Purple slates. Gable wallhead
stacks. 5-bay property to right; painted rubble. Door
at centre with large windows flanking in each bay at
ground and additional window to outer left. 1st floor
windows to bays flanking centre. Some small-pane modern
hopper windows at ground floor; 4-pane sash and case in
remaining windows. Purple slates. Gable end stacks.
Circa 1900 bay linking W gable end of terrace with earlier
property at right angles, with garage doors below and
single window above.
Decorative gutter fixtures retained. Flagpole above
pedimented doorway and bracketted Hotel sign to outer left.

Statement of Interest

Goblin Ha' Hotel was established by the 1920s, and probably

began as such in the years before World War II.

Part of Gifford Village A Group.
