Description

Mid to later 18th century. 2-storey, 5-bay house
adjoined to Town Hall and forming an imposing group of
buildings terminating axis of Fair Avenue. White painted
harling with painted ashlar margins.
S ELEVATION: door at centre with small-pane horizontal
fanlight. Windows in flanking bays and to each bay at
1st floor. Small circular Sun Insurance plaque above
centre window at 1st floor. Later lower extension at rear
with roof pitch swept down. Irregular windows to right
on E gable elevation. 12-pane glazing pattern to sash and
case windows. Coped ashlar stack with decorative cans
retained. Grey slates.

Statement of Interest

Town Hall listed separately below. Dolphin Cottage is taller

than its partner flanking the tower to W, but the group effect

is maintained by the use of identical paintwork. There was

previously a long wing projecting at rear.

Part of Gifford Village Group.
