Description

Earlier 19th century. 2-storey L-plan farmhouse with
additional single storey service wing. Stugged red
rubble sandstone with stugged grey ashlar dressings;
droved borders.
E ELEVATION: 3-bay. Outer bay to right gabled and
advanced; door at centre, set close by re-entrant angle;
small-pane horizontal fanlight. Tall windows in flanking
bays, smaller windows to each bay at 1st floor.
N ELEVATION: blank with lean-to timber garage.
S ELEVATION: ground floor window at centre. Gabled
service wing projecting from W elevation at right with
doorway to S elevation.
12-pane glazing pattern to sash and case windows.
Corniced stacks. Purple and grey slates to deeply
overhanging eaves with wrought-iron ties.

Statement of Interest

Redshill (formerly Reidshill) Farm was part of the Yester

estate; a group of early farm cottages to S of farmhouse

(not included in Listing) bear tiles manufactured by the

pioneering Tweeddale machine-made flat-roofing tiles. The

stature of the farmhouse is indicated by its design such

eaves being unusual among East Lothian farmhouses - the

corniced stacks and interior window shutters.
