Description

Circa 1830. Single storey, symmetrical rectangular plan
gate lodge, with later rear extension, in simple Gothick style.
Ashlar front with eaves course, painted margins, rendered at
sides and harled at rear.
W ELEVATION: 3-bay. Pointed arch door at centre, with fanlight
and 2-leaf boarded doors; overhanging eaves raised to form
gabled porch; pointed arch windows flanking. Decorative lattice
trellis panels by outer angles.
N AND S SIDES: blank.
E ELEVATION: flat-roofed extension.
Plate glass glazing pattern to sash and case windows at front.
Swept roof to W, N and S, with overhanging eaves, timber
brackets and decorative scrolled corner brackets; grey slates
and lead flashings; ashlar stack at centre.
INTERIOR: range and decorative fireplace retained.
Gatepiers and walls: square ashlar gatepiers, pyramid capped, by
red rubble quadrants of boundary walls.

Statement of Interest

Dignified example of a pattern book style of gate lodge, sited

at the village end of the drive to Spott House.
