Description

Earlier cottage, adjoined to circa 1830 cottage. Both single
storey red rubble sandstone with ashlar dressings.
N (STREET) ELEVATION: 3-bay single storey block to left with door
at centre flanked by windows, all under eaves. Slightly advanced
3 bays to later cottage with doorway at centre, flanked
by windows; expanse of blank wallhead below eaves.
S ELEVATIONS: large, altered windows to earlier cottage at
right; doorway flanked by windows to left cottage, with gabled
stone dormers to outer bays breaking eaves, and tile-hung
gabled dormer, circa 1925, above eaves.
12-pane glazing pattern to sash and case windows; gable end
stacks, ashlar coped skews and pantiles, Red rubble retaining
wall to rising ground to S and by roadside to E.

Statement of Interest

Sole surviving pantiled cottage of former group in Spott.

The sign "Tailor and Clothier from London" was previously

painted above one window, tailor's business run from this house,

into this century.
