Mid 18th century with later additions. 2-storey, wide 3-bay house with single storey, single bay addition set back at E gable and further single storey, 2-bay addition projects at right angles from SW angle forming L-plan. Harled over clay and bool. Tooled ashlar margins to centre door now masked by modern sun porch. Slightly enlarged ground and outer 1st floor windows.
Modern casement glazing replaced with multi-paned sash windows, 12-pane to ground floor and 9-pane to 1st floor (1995). Tooled ashlar coped stacks; slate roof.
Front garden enclosed by low wall.
INTERIOR: a few early fittings such as panelled door and remains of dado rail survive. Dado rails reinstated to principal rooms (1995). Large cast-iron range with flanking cupboards survives behind later plaster linings on gable of single storey wing at SW angle.
Stainson (or Steinson) House said to be one of the earliest surviving houses in Garmouth.
