Description

Circa 1790-98, hexagonal mausoleum, the angles marked by crude

pencil turrets rising through wallhead to blunt-headed

pinnacles; all harled. Simple wallhead parapet with primitive crenellation; shallow pyramidal slab roof behind parapet.

Centre plaque in south elevation over blocked centre door;

present entrance just off-centre in south face.

Statement of Interest

Erected by Sir John Sinclair of Ulbster and Thurso to

commemorate Earl Harold buried near this site after being killed

in battle, circa 1190.

Plaque inscribed "The Burial Place of the Sinclairs of Ulbster".

Stands on rise to east of Thurso Castle.
