Statement of Interest

Originally a parish in its own right, Simprim was annexed to Swinton in 1761. Thereafter, Simprim Church was left to fall into ruin. Said to be one of the smallest churches in Scotland, the chancel is 22ft long by 13ft wide, and the nave 23ft by 15ft9?. The plaque centred in the E gable is dedicated to Thomas Boston, author of the FOURFOLD STATE and minister here from 1699 to 1707. Referred to as 'Simprin' in the Ordnance Gazetteer.
