Later 18th century. Re-used square rusticated ashlar
dentilled cornice with fluted frieze; swagged urns
guilloche banding.
Gatepiers formerly stood at entrance of Elgin house of the
Anderson's of Linkwood, subsequently belonging to Elizabeth,
Duchess of Gordon. She sold the property to the 'Elgin
Magistrates' in 1837, the house was demolished and the County
buildings and courthouse, designed by William Robertson,
constructed on site. These were demolished in turn, to make
way for present District Buildings. Gatepiers re-erected
in present position at Pitgaveny in 1837.
