Description

Early 19th century. Rectangular mill and kiln of different builds, 2 storeys, with lean-to projecting wing at rear from L-plan. Dark whinstone rubble, tooled rubble dressings. Entrance in centre of S elevation and also in rear wing. Kiln at W has blocked window in ground floor of W gable and centre kiln window in gable and S elevation. 2 windows light S elevation of mill.

Slate roofs with octagonal ridge vent to kiln; silhouette of pig forms wind vane.

Wheel gable at E with remains of overshot 8-spoke wheel served by trough lade.

INTERIOR: all machinery survives including electric motor which provided power in the last years of its working life; other fittings include built-in hinged top desk for miller's use.

Statement of Interest

Mill ceased to function as such in early 1980's. The mill

wheel was superseded by electric power.
