Description

Dated 1832. Road bridge over Water of Nochty on old road from Lost to Auchernach. 2 segmental arches, N floodwater arch slightly smaller, with voussoirs and cutwaters. Curved approaches with pyramidally-coped square-section terminal piers. Coursed, roughly squared rubble with low flat-coped parapets.

FURTHER DESCRIPTION: inscription to W 'ERECTED / BY / GEN N FORBES / 1832.

Statement of Interest

A well designed bridge providing access to the former Auchernach policies at the principal south eastern entrance, on the former road from the village of Bellabeg via Lost. A short distance to the west is another bridge, at the Lodges of Auchernach, also crossing the Water of Nochty. A photograph of circa 1930 shows the bridge in open countryside without a single tree in sight, it is now completely hidden by trees.

Category changed from B to C(S) in 2006.
