John Smeaton, John Adam and Andrew Barrie of Montrose, architects and engineers 1770-75. Seven segmental river arches (62', 55' 46' 40' spans) with cutwaters, keyblocked circles in spandrels flanking centre arch, ashlar; long pinned rubble N approach with flood arch. Tablet at S approach records construction, L 800 annexed estates panel.
Part in Angus County, Montrose Parish. The Inscription gives 'John Adams' but presumably Adam is meant. The octagonal toll-house (former item 10) is now a complete ruin.
