Circa 1825-6(?) Symmetrical front, harled with granite
margins, centre part single-storey and attic with 4-column
wooden portico; R-doric of unusual type, lower 2/3rd with 2
bands of reeding upper 1/3rd plain; ashlar granite gable
rises pedimentally behind, 1 window with 1 canted dormer
above either side. End blocks 2-storey, 1-window to front, 2
down flanks; quadrant walls link to 2-storey block of offices
at back. Entrance hall has R-doric columns and a little
decorative plasterwork, interior otherwise fairly plain.
Probably built by James Shirras of Old Deer who bought it
from Alex How in 1825 or by Crawford Noble to whom he gave
the property in 1833. Ellismill House nearby, now gutted by
fire, seem to be by the same hand but of rather earlier date
(1805). Centre 2-storey without portico and 3-window bow on
E. front, details otherwise very similar. The old barn (1st
provisions list item) is extant but very dilapidated.
Hayfield, N.N.E. of Berryhill has been 2-storey 3-window
Georgian with single storey bow fronted wings but has been
Victorianised
