Description

Rough ashlar granite, centre raised and pedimented over pend
arch with weathercock. 4 arches with blind lunettes either

Statement of Interest

Of Strichen House built 1818-21 to designs by John Smith of

Aberdeen for Lord Lovat only the shell remains, less the N.W.

bow and the S.W. portico which have been demolished completely.

There is a small circular plain rubble hermitage N.W. of the

house said to have borne date T.R. 1580 now roofless, no special features; and a plain walled garden to the E. The stone circle

mentioned in Dr. Johnson's Tour has been demolished. The mains

is now largely Sleigh's work but has old coped chimneys.
