Description

Ruins of castle. Remains of several rectangular-plan buildings. Dry-stone masonry. Dry-stone wall surrounding island.

Statement of Interest

Castle Island is situated in Castle Loch. The Castle was apparently the residence of the Dunbars before they built Old Place of Mochrum (see separate listing). The island was excavated by the Marquis of Bute circa 1910.
