Description

1828 (dated). Free-standing sundial. Red sandstone. Square pedestal, divided into 3 stages by string courses, with rosette to each face at upper stage; chamfered table. Square moulded dial-stone, with angled corners, on concave base. Circular bronze dial, inscribed "John Mackie, Bargaly 1828" and "A Adie, Edinburgh". Open gnomon.

Statement of Interest

This sundial was made by A Adie, Edinburgh for John Mackie in 1828. The sundial used to be situated in the Walled Garden; it is now situated nearby Bargaly House (see separate listing), to the NE. There is another sundial (see separate listing) at Bargaly.
