Probably 17th century. Lectern dovecot. Circa 26' x 15'
in plan, 30' high at rear. Red sandstone rubble, with
natural harling grey slates. Rat course encircling
dovecot and to N at ridge. 2 doorways on S side, with
2 square flight-holes above; 2 sets of 10 flight-holes at
mid-point of S pitch. 1394 nesting boxes inside. Lean-to
rubble slightly later rear addition, serving as buttress to
N, with pantile roof and slate eaves easing course.

Statement of Interest

Sited to SW of Ruchlaw House (listed separately) and probably contemporary. A less exceptional example of the lectern

dovecots which stand out in East Lothian, such as at

Bowerhouse, Dunbar, at Spott and at Biel.
