Description

Post 1871, with W cottage pre-dating its neighbour.
Single storey and attic, semi-detached pair of 3-bay
cottages. Squared, snecked and stugged red sandstone;
ashlar margins.
N ELEVATION: W cottage set on slightly higher ground and
forward of its later partner. Each cottage with doorway
at centre, boarded door and small-pane fanlight, flanked
by windows, inner with timber casements, outer with
12-pane sash and case to outer windows. Gabled timber
dormers, with slate hanging to sides and bipartite,
small-pane casements.
OTHER ELEVATIONS: simple and unaltered. Coped skews and
skewputts. Grey-green slates to N pitch, purple to rear.
Small skylights. End and ridge corniced stacks.
BOUNDARY WALLS: rubble boundary walls with coping
broken at intervals by upright blocks, and droved,
bounding small gardens of cottage pair, on all sides.

Possibly designed by John Farquharson of Haddington who

worked on Eastfield, the home farm, circa 1875.
