Mid 18th century, with later additions and alterations. 3-bay single storey gate lodge, adjoining boundary walls by roadside. Sandstone rubble with broached ashlar and droved ashlar dressings. Raised margins. Eaves course. Strip quoins to rear.
N (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: near-symmetrical. Vertically-boarded timber door to right of centre, flanked by windows, small window to outer left.
W ELEVATION: pair of regularly-spaced windows.
S (REAR) ELEVATION: 6 symmetrical bays, comprising 2 modern 14-pane glazed doors, both flanked by porthole windows. Modern addition to right comprising recessed glazed bay to right, with central 2-leaf glazed door, 3-bay block to outer right, with regularly-spaced bipartite windows in each bay.
E ELEVATION: not seen, 2000.
Modern glazing, predominantly timber sash and case windows. Piended grey slate roofs, with lead ridges. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Central ashlar stack, coped, with single circular can.
BOUNDARY WALLS: random rubble walls flanking lodge, predominantly rubble coped, including wall adjoining lodge to E, incorporating pair of infilled doorways, with ashlar cope swept up to rubble cope adjoining lodge.
B Group with Prestongrange House, Prestongrange House Boundary Walls, Prestongrange House East Lodge and Prestongrange House South Lodge (see separate listings). Prestongrange North Lodge is probably contemporary with the interior alterations to Presongrange House, circa 1750 (see separate listing). The date 1858 and initials ROT incised in jamb of E doorway (S elevation) refer to an occupant of this date, rather than to any alteration to the lodge. The modern addition is similar in character to the original block in design. The interior contains no features of importance.
