Description

Early 19th century. Symmetrical single-storey, 3-bay, L-plan former lodge to Kennox House (see separate listing) with later, single-storey addition to re-entrant angle to rear. Painted rubble with contrasting painted margins. Raised cills, moulded architraves. Hoodmoulding above timber entrance door. Bipartite windows to front elevation with vermiculated stone mullions. Panelled timber entrance door with hoodmould above.

Non-traditional glazing to casement windows to other elevations. Piended roof with grey slates. Tall, wallhead stacks.

INTERIOR: (seen 2008) comprehensively modernised.

Statement of Interest

This is a distinctive piended-roofed former lodge, situated on the main road opposite the entrance to Kennox House and is a significant addition to the streetscape. The building retains the simple, picturesque details of vermiculated stone mullions and hoodmoulding which add considerable character to its principal elevation.

The lodge was an important and integral part of a 19th century estate, as visitors would pass it on their way to the main house. This one is situated directly across from the gates to Kennox House.

List description updated as part of Stewarton Parish resurvey, 2009.
