Circa 1870. Jacobean style assymmetrical 2-storey and
attic villa added to a simple late 18th/early 19th century
small 2-storey, 3-bay house. Stugged and snecked ashlar with
polished dressings. Entrance porch single-storey in re-entrant
angle with earlier house, 4-centred moulded arch with
carved spandrels, corbelled and raised parapet. 2 bays to
left, 1 gabled, outer with square projecting ground floor
3-light window with entwined initials on an escutcheon
in parapet. Garden front (SW) 3 uneven bays, outer gabled
that to right with full-height canted bay corbelled to
square at attic. Windows mainly 2 or 3-light with plate
glass sashes. Strapwork creating 1st floor NE entrance
front window. Gables with kneelers and finials. Slate roof;
grouped ridge stacks now reduced in height.
Earlier house given gablets to front circa 1870, rear
stair window with margin glazing (stone stair with iron
balustrade survives).
Interior: Entrance lobby leads to stair hall through
elaborately detailed door with handsome, large engraved
glass panel. Staircase with banded colonette balusters
supporting gothic arcading, 3-arched decorated gothic
screen on landing, deep floral cornice. Excellent woodwork
to be seen in linen-fold shutters and doors; colonettes
to main doorcases to hall and landing, drawing room etc.
Deep plaster cornices to main rooms. Billiard room
in attic.
