Description

Mid 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay villa. Grey harl with white-

painted ashlar sandstone margins and dressings; base course; eaves band; quoin strips; projecting bracketted eaves.

SW ELEVATION: 3 symmetrical bays; former window at centre ground, now modern French door with cast-iron steps; window above. Flanking full-height canted window with dividing cornice.

NE (REAR) ELEVATION: asymmetrical; 3 bays grouped towards right; door at penultimate bay to right, flanking windows, that to right smaller, tall window at 1st floor outer right (12-lying-pane sash and case); small window to left of left flanking window.

SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: advanced block to outer right, full-height canted window with dividing cornice; ashlar porch in re-entrant angle, bracketted corncie and blocking course; 4-panelled door with plate glass fanlight, narrow light at left return; window to left above porch.

NW ELEVATION: 2-bay block advanced to outer right, windows symmetrically disposed at 1st floor; window at ground floor to left, window at ground left return. Recessed block to left with windows at ground and 1st floor right and narrow window at centre ground.

4-pane sash and case windows; 8-lying-pane sash and case window; plate glass sash and case window. Grey slate piend roof; linked, stop-chamfered, sandstone wallhead stacks on bases (groups of 2 and 4); octagonal cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1993.

BOUNDARY WALL: high rubble boundary wall to NE of site; ashlar saddleback coping; wooden garden door with wrought-iron panel to left. Lean-to and gabled greenhouses at centre of wall (in poor condition).

Statement of Interest

Lagbuie is shown on the 1st edition map as a rambling-plan house, by the 2nd edition the plan is a regular rectangular-plan. The stables to the N of the house have been converted to dwellings.
