Description

1855. 2-storey over laigh floor 5-bay former grain mill. Harled walls, projecting cills to windows.

S ELEVATION: centre bays of laigh floor obscured by modern lean-to conservatory, single storey rubble lean-to with single small window projecting in bay to outer right, infilled window in bay to outer left. Upper floors regularly fenestrated with modern 4-pane timber windows except for infilled window at ground in bay to outer left.

E GABLE: symmetrical, remains of rubble wheel pit projecting at laigh floor, 2 windows at ground with single 1st floor window centred above (all infilled), small louvered opening in gablehead.

N ELEVATION: laigh floor obscured; irregularly fenestrated with loading door at 1st floor in bay to outer left.

Bell-cast grey slate roof, ashlar skew copes with block skewputts and gablehead finials.

Statement of Interest

Weisdale was once Shetland's largest grain mill. It was converted to an Arts and Crafts centre by Richard Gibson in 1987 which included the addition of the conservatory and the installation of a contemporary interior.
