Description

Late 18th century. 2-storey and attic 3-bay symmetrical laird?s house of rectangular plan; single storey service wing to N with porch clasping NW corner of house. Harled walls with margined windows and doors.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical, vertically-boarded timber door with 4-pane fanlight at ground in centre bay, windows in flanking bays, regular fenestration at 1st floor.

S GABLE: small attic window to right in gablehead.

W (REAR) ELEVATION: symmetrical, windows at ground and 1st floor in centre bay, windows at ground floor only in outer bays.

N GABLE: 2-bay gable obscured at ground by service wing, regular fenestration at 1st floor.

SERVICE WING: window centred in symmetrical E wall; asymmetrical N wall with windows offset to left of centre and to outer right; asymmetrical W gable extending to right (S) as porch with timber door.

12-pane timber sash and case windows. Fishscale tiles to principal roof, grey slate roof to service wing, piended to E. Rendered skew-copes; harled gablehead stacks with concrete copes and octagonal cans to principal gables, harled and coped gablehead stack to service wing.

GARDEN WALL: L-plan random rubble wall bounding S and E sides of garden to E of house.

This elegant house presides conspicuously over the head of the Easter Lee of Gloup.
