Description

circa 1820- 30's. Single-storey gatelodge with timber potico of doric columns distyle in antis in barge-boarded entrance gable. Gable ends also deep-eaved with fleur-de-lis barge-boards. Rendered rubble with granite ashlar dressings at main elevations; rendered brick at porch. Consoled window hoods; surviving T-shaped glazing bars (see note); shutters. Slated roof. Two pairs plain granite ashlar gatepiers with flat pyramid caps; pair cast- iron gates, with single pedestrian gates flanking.

Statement of Interest

One of an identical pair of lodges at Pitfour, the other Bruxie Lodge (item 41). Category C(S) because of neglected condition (1991); in better condition the lodge would merit category B. Original glazing pattern may have consisted in inward-opening casements, with 12 lying panes: 4 above, 8 below horizontal glazing bar (presuming there was also an upper vertical glazing bar originally, now lost).
