Circa 1800. 2-storey 3-bay farmhouse. Red rubble sandstone with grey ashlar dressings and squared and coursed W front; painted rear elevation and ashlar margins; base and eaves course. W elevation: aggrandised circa 1820 (?); corniced and pilastered doorpiece at centre with deep-set, flush-panelled door and decorative fanlight; window above at 1st floor; stone mullioned tripartites in outer bays at each floor. E elevation: stair window at centre and windows at each floor in outer bays. Single storey, piend roofed porch addition intercepting SE corner, with doorway in re-entrant angle to N. N and S gables with attic windows. Garage addition to S elevation. Walled Garden: high rubble, harl pointed walls to rectangular garden at E. Gatepiers: square ashlar gatepiers with pyramidal copes to S drive.
The existence of such a substantial walled garden and ennobled principal elevation along with the name Renton Hall, suggest the flourishing state of the farm and tile works in the 19th century. The settlement/steading 1st appears on Armstrong's 1773 map of Haddingtonshire, then named
Hags. The cottage to NW by the steading is listed separately.
