Description

17th century. Double lectern dovecot in poor condition (1988). Rubble with harl pointing and ashlar dressings; 2 rat courses. 30x18 in plan. 2 doorways originally to S, with small windows above rat course, and blank panel between; E side of S elevation currently derelict. Position of 2 former dormers containing flight-holes, indicated by large gaps in purple slated roof. Crowstepped skews; beak skewputts.

INTERIOR: originally lined with 2000 nesting boxes, each 1' deep.

Statement of Interest

Herdmanston House (17th century) was demolished in 1970s, though the remains of an earlier chapel and of the steading, still lie across the River Tyne, and are listed separately.
