Description

Earlier 19th century, with later alterations. Symmetrical, classical stable range. Sandstone masonry, roughly squared with rough droving to E side and rear, squared, coursed and droved S front, and W side. Central pedimented bay with segmental arch to barrel-vaulted pend and loft above oculus in pediment, linked to 2-storey piend-roofed outer pavilions by 3 low, slightly recessed bays each side to W with door at centre and flanking windows, those to E with 2 doorways and one

window. Pavilion blocks both with additions; W pavilion retaining segmental carriage arch (currently glazed)and window above on S elevation, with conservatory added to W; regrettably altered by addition of modern porch to S and later windows to side and rear. 12-pane glazing pattern in original windows, 4-pane in later windows, in sash and case form. Grey-green slates. Harled and brick wallhead stacks.

Listed C(S) for dignified form of original stable range and its contribution to Fountainhall policies (see separate listing).Blocks projecting from rear of range, at E end, possibly served as mounting blocks.
