Description

Probably James Burn, circa 1805. Single span segmentally arched bridge across Milton Water. Squared and snecked sandstone with ashlar voussoirs and string course to arch and droved coping to gently gabled parapet. Span approx 42' with set-offs at the banks and 2 pairs of droved drum piers terminating parapets.

Statement of Interest

Two separate sheets of drawings by James Burn of Haddington for a bridge at Milton Ford, included in the above references and dated 1805 and 1803 respectively, suggest the probable authorship by Burn of the bridge as it now stands, though each drawing takes a different form.
