Description

Later 19th century. Single storey, 3-bay rectangular- plan cottage villa with 2-bay wing recessed to right. Stugged, squared and snecked honey-coloured sandstone with polished sandstone margins and dressings. Base course; strip quoins; projecting bracketted eaves.

MAIN ELEVATION: 3 symmetrical bays; roll-moulded arrises. Segmental-

arched door, 2-leaf, 4-panelled door with plate glass fanlight. Flanking canted windows. Lower 2-bay wing recessed to right, modern forestair at right return.

Plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate roof with terracotta,

perforated cresting, finials. Ashlar corniced wallhead stacks with octagonal cans. Decorative cast-iron waterhead retained.

INTERIOR: good painted glass on inner half-glazed door; simple interior, central hall.

Statement of Interest

The house is shown on the 2nd edition map. It is in close proximity

to the former Whistlefield station and may have had some connections with the railway. The house holds a prominent site on the old drover's road to Protincaple.
