Description

James Leslie, engineer, 1848. Aqueduct carrying enclosed duct over burn. Lightly stugged rubble masonry, ashlar dressings and intrados with bull-faced coping stones. 2 segmental arches. Embankment at S with rubble drystone wall.

Statement of Interest

The aqueduct from Monikie to Stobbs Muir was constructed by the Dundee Water Company which had been formed in 1845 to provide an adequate water supply for the expanding population of Dundee. The aqueduct is no longer used. Other aqueducts in Murroes parish are listed at Gagie Lodge and Burnside of Duntrune, and there are other listed water installations at Gagie Filters. There is an unlisted aqueduct at North Bank Farm, a low structure completely encased in a walled grassed-over mound known locally as ?the boat?.
