Description

Late 19th century, early 20th century additions at N and W. Single storey, and single storey and attic, rectangular-plan made L-plan by additions, coach house, garage and stables. Rubble masonry with stugged dressings, slate roof; brick and timber additions with piended slate roof. Moulded bargeboards. Distinctive chevron-boarded doors.

S ELEVATION: gable at centre with 2-leaf sliding doors; higher gable at right with 2 boarded-up windows at ground floor, hayloft door above with hatch-baorded doors and corbelled cills, 5 ventilation holes at apex, single-shouldered stack at right skew, 2 ventilator windows at right return elevation; later gable at left with 2-leaf sliding doors.

N ELEVATION: gable at left with door at right. ventilator window at centre, hayloft door and apex ventilators as S elevation; paired gables advanced at right each with multi-pane window, garage doors at left re-entrant.

INTERIOR: some boarded walls.

Statement of Interest

See NOTES to Balmuir House. This building was probably designed by J M Robertson when he extended Balmuir House in 1892; part of an earlier building, shown on the 1858 OS map and 1872 estate plan may be incorporated. Included in B Group with Balmuir House, Dovecot, Garage Cottage, Old Stable and Walled Kitchen Garden.
