17th century, extended 18th century. Circular-plan, made D-plan by extension, lectern type dovecote. Harl-pointed pink and grey rubble, large irregular quoins, collapsed slate roof. Rat course, stepped down at bowed section; flat-coped skews. Doors at W with chamfered jambs, later extended to ground level. Later window inserted at N elevation.
INTERIOR: small rubble and stone nesting boxes in original part. Larger stone slab nesting boxes in extension.
This dovecot was formerly part of the Strathmartine Castle Estate and was probably extended by Captain David Laird, an 'improving' landlord, who bought the property circa 1785.
