Description

Mid 18th century. Single arch bridge with flanking overflow arch

each side. Cream sandstone rubble with harl pointing; squared for voussoirs of arches; ashlar coping to parapet. Main arch span of approximatley 10'.

Statement of Interest

Bridging the River Tyne to S of Ormiston Probably part of the planned village works masterminded by John Cockburn in the mid 18th century, and quite possibly designed by their creator, Lewis Gordon, a civil engineer brought up from London for the purpose.
