Description

Late 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay house. Squared and snecked whin rubble. Granite dressings. Polished margins, eaves course and cornice. Bull-faced base course and rusticated quoins. Double-pile plan, of two 2-storey gabled blocks.

N (CRESSBRIDGE) ELEVATION: raised doorcase at centre, with cornice and angled blocking course; deep-set panelled door with plate glass fanlight. Canted windows, with cornice and blocking course, in outer bays at ground floor. Single light windows at 1st floor.

W ELEVATION: bipartite window at ground floor, and window at 1st floor, to left gable. Window at ground and 1st floors to recessed right gable. Garden wall adjoined to right.

E ELEVATION: bipartite window at ground floor, and window at 1st floor, to right gable. Window at ground and 1st floors to recessed left gable. Gable wing recessed to left, with 2 doors and 2 windows at ground floor, and 2 windows at 1st floor.

Plate glass glazing in sash and case windows; some modern glazing to E and W elevations. Coped skews, cavetto moulded at eaves. Grey slates to shallow pitched roof. Central stack between front and rear blocks. Decorative square cans.

RAILINGS: fleur-de-lis cast-iron railings, set in granite saddleback coping, along road to Creebridge, with cast-iron posts.

Statement of Interest

Masonfield is not shown on the OS Map of 1849-50. James G Kinna,

author of the HISTORY OF THE PARISH OF MINNIGAFF, lived here as a child, his father having built Masonfield.
